Spoelstra Gets Win No. 600, Heat Top Spurs 116-111 – CBS Miami
MIAMI (AP) – Erik Spoelstra won a milestone and it wasn’t easy.
Jimmy Butler scored 29 points, Bam Adebayo 21 points and the Miami Heat took a 17-0 lead in the second half before beating the San Antonio Spurs 116-111 on Wednesday night.

It was Spoelstra’s 600th regular season win, making him the 27th coach in NBA history to win so many and only the sixth coach to do so with a franchise. He thanked the President of Heat, Pat Riley, and the managing partner, Micky Arison, for the opportunity.
“It’s humble,” said Spoelstra. “Of course, I always think of Pat and Mickey because they have this incredible opportunity to train with this franchise. I feel a great responsibility to get it right for something they started and created. “
The Heat (33-30) remained number 7 in the Eastern Conference, linked to number 6 Boston (33-30) and now one game behind number 5 Atlanta (34-29).
“I know if we win, that’ll take care of everything,” said Butler.
Adebayo added 11 rebounds for Miami, which received 18 points from three players – Kendrick Nunn – plus reserves Goran Dragic and Dewayne Dedmon. Dragic had seven assists, gave him 2,004 in his Miami career, and linked him to two-time NBA champion Mario Chalmers for the third-highest spot in team history.
Dejounte Murray had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for the Spurs who were unprotected Derrick White, who is expected to miss the rest of the season with a sprained ankle. DeMar DeRozan scored 20 for the Spurs, who received 18 from Lonnie Walker IV, 14 from Keldon Johnson, 13 from Rudy Gay and 11 from Devin Vassell.
The Spurs remained number 9 in the Western Conference race, exactly in the play-in mix.
“We just have to get closer, stronger and get more wins,” said Walker.
San Antonio led by seven points late in the third round, but Miami scored the next 17 points – the last two came to open the fourth – and ended a two-game season against the Spurs for a second time.
“I love this group,” said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. “They may have a bad time for three, four or five minutes, but they keep playing. They don’t give in and we’re just trying to reduce bugs, get more experience for some people and it’s slowly but surely paying off. “

Spurs: Walker, who played for the University of Miami, had only scored 16 points in three previous games against the Heat – and only two in his single game in Miami as a pro before Wednesday. … The Spurs fell 18:11 on the road, along with Denver as second best in the NBA. Only Phoenix (20-9) is better at home.
Heat: Victor Oladipo (knee) missed his eleventh game in a row and Tyler Herro (right foot pain) missed his third game in a row but is making progress, Spoelstra said. “As far as structurally (wrong), he is aware of it,” said Spoelstra. … Miami has two days off after a game for the first time since April 9-10. … Butler missed his lone 3-point attempt and is now 0 for his last 11 from beyond the arch.
Spoelstra joined a very small group with the milestone win. The only other coaches to have won 600 games with a franchise: Popovich with Spurs (1,308), Jerry Sloan with Utah (1,127), Red Auerbach with Boston (795), Red Holzman with New York (613) and Phil Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers (610).
White out made Vassell his second start and Popovich said it would accelerate the rookie’s growth. “When he gets minutes, he played well,” said Popovich. “When he has fewer minutes, the rookie part comes out where he’s probably more in a rush and probably pushing a bit. … In this situation he will get more minutes and I expect him to develop very well. “
Dedmon had to change jerseys in the second quarter – not because of the sweat, but because of the spelling. Dedmon took the place in a jersey with the name “DEDMAN” on the back. A new jersey was found and when Dedmon returned it was in a top that had the correct spelling of his last name.

Heat: Visit Cleveland on Saturday.
