James Beard Award-winning chef and Miami restaurateur Michael Schwartz has just announced his latest concept: Schwartz’s Genuine Miami Deli.

Starting this Thursday, October 10th, the deli will arrive in Yom Kippur just in time to break the fast. Only open for delivery as it is not yet a stationary store, Schwartz’s Genuine Miami Deli takes orders via Uber Eats daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., other delivery partners such as DoorDash and Postmates will follow shortly.

Schwartz’s ever-growing empire, Genuine Hospitality Group, now has nine restaurants, including a Michael’s Genuine in Cleveland and three locations of Genuine Pizza and Harry’s Pizzeria. Schwartz’s Genuine Miami Deli follows his restaurant’s May debut in Coconut Grove Tigertail + Mary.

His idea for the deli was inspired by the nostalgia for the summers of his youth in the north. “I have a thing for this type of food because I grew up with it in the Jersey Shore summer months and worked during my time in New York City,” says Schwartz. “There’s nothing like warm, soft rye bread folded over tender, juicy slices of perfect pastrami to stay with you.”

The menu features New York deli classics. The freshly made to order overcrowded sandwiches – including hot pastrami that is salted and smoked in house ($ 16), freshly roasted turkey with lettuce and tomatoes ($ 14), and a pastrami and turkey combo ($ 15) – come down to Jewish Rye and with half a pickle. You can make it special by adding Russian dressing and coleslaw for an additional $ 3. There’s also fresh chicken, tuna, or egg salad, either on rye ($ 11-14) or as a three-ball platter ($ 16).

Homemade bagels complete the offer. A simple bagel or anything else sells for $ 2; add cream cheese for $ 1 more. “The works” – a bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese and everything that goes with it – costs 17 US dollars. Pastrami, turkey, salads, cream cheese, and smoked salmon can all be ordered per pound and delivered for large family gatherings. Finish the meal on a sweet note with a full 6-inch New York-style cheesecake – plain ($ 42) or strawberry ($ 49) – that serves six to eight people.

Schwartz’s Genuine Miami Deli makes deliveries to surrounding neighborhoods, including the Biscayne Corridor, Miami Shores, El Portal and Normandy Isle, via Uber Eats from its kitchen on 79th Street.
