MIAMI (WSVN) – Miami police have confirmed that investigators are questioning a “possible subject” of an attempted rape in the Brickell area.

“We have to find and identify this man who can be seen in the video,” said Kenya Fallat, spokesman for the Miami Police.

Police said the man was in his late 20s to early 30s, was thin, had a goatee and had brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, black shorts, and black and red sneakers.
Late on Thursday, the police announced that they would question a “possible subject” in the case. They did not say how or if the person they are interviewing is definitely connected to the case.
Detectives said the attack took place in the Brickell Flatiron Building on Southeast First Avenue and 10th Street.
Surveillance cameras in the building where the attack took place put the man following the victim, who was jogging recently, into an elevator.
Police said the man pretended to be on his cell phone before following the woman to her apartment after she got off the elevator.
“He shoves the door in when she walks into her apartment, goes in, takes out a metal pipe, and demands that she give him oral sex,” Fallat said. “‘If you don’t give me oral sex, I’ll beat you.’ Obviously she avoided that. In the meantime he beats her. She breaks away from him, barricades herself in her bedroom, opens the balcony door and starts screaming. “
Officers said neighbors heard the victim scream and called 911.
“She just yelled, ‘Help! Help me! Help me! Help!’ And it was just a clotting scream, ”said a neighbor. “The tone in her voice was just sheer terror. I hope they certainly increase security. In order for someone to be able to piggyback and jump on the elevator, this is very worrying. “
Residents like Cynthia Benavides said they were disturbed, the man could enter the building and follow the woman to her apartment.
“It is incredibly worrying that someone could get into a woman’s apartment on one of the apartment floors and try to sexually assault her,” said Benavides. “It’s just not terrifying.”
“I live right here, so this could happen to me,” said one woman.
A resident of Brickell Flatiron wrote that she was “extremely disappointed that the building did not notify residents of the security breach and the rape attempt. They added a security guard but are clearly trying to keep this calm. “
The man was videotaped as he left the building following the alleged attack.
Brickell Flatiron’s management said “we are currently unable to provide an explanation” when asked to comment on the attack.
If you have information about this man’s whereabouts, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous and potentially receive up to $ 5,000 in rewards.
