Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo Embraces Opportunity With Olympic Team

After Bam Adebayo was banned from Team USA Testing two summers ago, the Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo is poised to take full advantage of its first opportunity to represent his country in the Olympics.

Adebayo said it was one of the greatest honors of his career. This week he started training with the Olympic team in Las Vegas.

“It means a lot,” Adebayo said earlier this week. “I wear the USA over my chest and go out there, compete against different countries and get to know another side of the world. So it’s a great opportunity for that too. It will be great to get the gold medal because I don’t just represent the US, I represent my family, my team, my city. And everyone is counting on me. So it’s a big responsibility. “

Entering his fourth season in the NBA, Adebayo has already impressed Olympic coach Gregg Popovich, who coaches the San Antonio Spurs.

“He’s active, he’s a rebounder, he runs,” said Popovich. “He knows how to play with teammates. … He will be very valuable to us and obviously our best rebounder.”

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the experience should only help Adebayo as their game develops.

“This summer the chance to fight for a gold medal is the perfect thing for Bam,” said Adebayo. “I couldn’t be happier that he can have this experience.”
