Miami City Commissioners Save Allapattah Library From Closing – CBS Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Allapattah Library threatened to close its doors forever after the City of Miami sold the land to a developer, but it appears to have been saved.

The city commissioners set a new condition for the redevelopment of the area, which must include a new library on the first floor.

Students and community leaders came Wednesday to rescue one of Miami’s oldest library branches, saying the library was vital to the community.

According to the original plans, the site will be home to 150 affordable housing units and the city will now negotiate with the non-profit housing company.
