Lewis Morgan’s Equalizer Helps Miami Tie Atlanta 1-1 – CBS Miami

FORT LAUDERDALE (AP) – Josef Martínez started the season for the first time and scored his first MLS goal since the 2019 season. Atlanta United played 1-1 against Inter Miami on Sunday.

Martinez, who scored 77 goals in his first three MLS seasons – including a then record of 31 in 2017 – suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his right knee in the first game of the 2020 season at the end of the season. It was his first regular goal of the season since the 2019 final against New England.

With his back to the net, Martinez stopped a ball from Emerson Hyndman, turned and fired a side-nic from above to score the goal in the ninth minute.

Lewis Morgan scored in the 77th minute for Miami (1-2-1). The 24-year-old midfielder split two defenders in his second MLS season before collecting and then tearing a left foot that slipped into the post.
