Landlord: Driver in custody after crashing SUV into Fort Lauderdale home – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – A driver reportedly in custody after crashing an SUV into the living room of a house in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale police responded to the house along Northwest Fifth Street and 15th Avenue at around 4 a.m. Monday.

According to home owner Tommy Bolden, a vehicle that escaped the authorities lost control and crashed into the house and two cars parked outside.

Bolden said the driver behind the wheel tried to escape from the scene, but nearby police officers took the man into custody.

“There was a police chase and the guy tried to turn around and ran into the house, jumped out of the car and tried to escape, but they got him,” said Bolden. “He met other officers and they caught him.”

The bedrooms of the house are on the other side of the house so no residents have been injured.

The house has since been considered unsafe as the vehicle hit a support beam. Bolden said the house was $ 15,000-20,000 in damage.

The residents of the house are now looking for a new place to stay.
