1. US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden plan to travel to Surfside, Florida, the site of the fatal collapse of the condominium, to offer condolences to the families of those killed and missing as the number of casualties has increased.

2. A heat wave that broke all high temperature records in western Canada and the northwestern United States has left rising death tolls.

3. A load of seized fireworks exploded when Los Angeles police tried to dispose of it safely, injuring 17 people, including six civilians, and damaging cars and buildings.

4. New vote counts released on Wednesday in New York City’s Democratic mayoral campaign showed that Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams’ lead over his closest rivals has fallen significantly.

5. China’s President Xi Jinping warned that foreign forces attempting to harass the nation will “have their heads knocked in” and hailed a “new world” created by their people as the ruling Communist Party’s centenary celebrated its inception.
