Furniture Played Role In Death Of Pompano Beach Girl – CBS Miami
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Broward Sheriff’s Office MPs continue to investigate the details that led to the death of a two-year-old at their home on the 5200 block of North East 14th Terrace in Pompano Beach.
Although not all of the details were released, officials say a piece of furniture played a role in the child’s death.

“A furniture incident resulted in a medical emergency for the child and the child was declared deceased,” said BSO spokesman Carey Codd.
According to investigators, two-year-old Hope Ford was pronounced dead this morning after a tragic accident in her bedroom.
CBS4 spoke to neighbors who shared the moments after the incident.
“I heard I just don’t know how to explain, a godly guttural scream, no kids playing, no people fighting and liking something terrible just happened wrong. And when I think of something terrible that is happening to her little girl, what I felt in my stomach, I wanted to cry, ”said Robert Aratari, who lives in the area.

Although officials have not yet released full details of the incident, the fact that it was furniture has re-increased concerns about child-safe homes.
“What we do know is a very sobering fact that between 2000 and 2019, unfortunately, slightly more than 450 children under the age of 17 were killed by furniture or TV overturning,” said Brian Walch of the US Product Safety Commission.
In fact, according to Walch, the numbers are worst when you factor in other injuries that lead to emergency rooms. More than 11,000 children are being hospitalized. He adds that the solution is as simple as using a kit to anchor the furniture to the wall.
“They’re very cheap, they can only cost five dollars. And you can install it in minutes, ”said Walch.
And while BSO continues to investigate the exact circumstances that led to Hope’s death, they say that one thing is certain, she will be missing.

“This is a devastating loss for this family. Every loss of life is tragic,” said Codd.
