Florida Highway Patrol releases dashcam video of car chase, crash in North Miami-Dade – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

NORTH MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – The Florida Highway Patrol released a dashcam video of a soldier chasing a suspect speeding through heavy traffic on Interstate 95 in North Miami-Dade.

The chase took place around 8:30 p.m. on April 9, when a Florida Highway Patrol soldier was traveling south of I-95 in Miami-Dade County when he reported seeing a fast-moving car in traffic.

Dashcam footage shows the moment he switched on his police lights. The Black Dodge Charger driver stops by driving past.

The soldier got out and stopped to chat with the driver through the passenger side window.

In his report, the soldier said the driver gave him an expired medical marijuana card and noticed the smell of marijuana and a bag of green leafy substance in the passenger seat.

Less than a minute later, the parking lights changed and the driver sped away.

“Billy, Billy ran away, ran away, ran away, ran away from me!” shouted the soldier.

The soldier ran back to his cruiser to chase him and let shipping know what was going on.

“Where are you, where are you?” asked shipping.

“Go south on Ives Dairy Road,” replied the soldier.

The soldier followed him on his shoulder and maneuvered around a tow truck.

“I-95 south, north of Miami Gardens. Get off on Miami Gardens Drive, ”he said.

The soldier saw the driver exit the highway, but when he got to the exit all that was visible was skid marks and a lot of smoke.

“Let me see your hands! Don’t be stupid! Let me see your hands! Let me see your hands! Don’t be stupid! Don’t be stupid! Don’t be stupid!” The soldier repeatedly shared the footage with the driver.

In three minutes sirens sounded, and then more soldiers appeared.

Screaming noises could be heard in the distance.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Leonardo Raxach, hit a tree in a ditch and was taken to Aventura Hospital. Inside the car, soldiers said they found LSD, a Glock-style gun and a fully loaded high-profile magazine.

According to the arrest, marijuana and ecstasy were also found in the vehicle.

Raxach is accused of possessing marijuana, fled an officer, and traded LSD.
