Earth Day 2021 Events And Freebies In South Florida

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It’s Earth Day, a time when Mother Nature is protected in South Florida and around the world.

The annual event is viewed by many as a day that recognizes the importance of clean water and clean air.

This year, many Earth Day commemorative activities in South Florida will strictly adhere to safety guidelines and protocols. So be sure to bring your face masks and keep social distance.

Here are some Earth Day events scheduled for you in person and online:

Zoo Miami’s “Party for the Planet”: From April 17 to May 2, from 10am to 5pm, take a trip to Miami Zoo for a mobile park scavenger hunt that sees guests complete three educational missions to help protect our planet from environmental threats.

Earth Day in the Frost Museum: – There are events for all ages, including the Virtual Live event, in partnership with the Everglades Foundation. From 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on April 22nd, discover how the Everglades’ restoration is tackling climate change. The speaker series Virtual LIVE @Frost Science will be broadcast live on the museum’s Facebook and YouTube pages. The entire program of Earth Day 2021 is free with paid museum admission.

SLS South Beach sewer cleaning: Locals and guests can meet at the Clear View Kayak launch in Collins and on the 23rd to attend a sewer cleaning service in Miami Beach. Kayaks, paddleboards, garbage bags, and gloves are provided. After cleaning up, attendees can enjoy a cocktail and relax on beach chairs at SLS South Beach. The event will take place on April 22nd from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tickets cost $ 20 per person and 100% of the proceeds support all partners with deliveries to continue the fight against pollution in Miami’s backyard.

#ActsOfGreen Photo & Video Submissions: Celebrate Earth Day virtually from April 19-25 by posting photos or videos of your daily activities around nature using the hashtag #ActsOfGreen on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Acts of Green can be any action taken for the benefit of our planet. Share on social media and help spread the word.

Earth Day Beach Cleanup at Crandon Park: On April 22nd, swing your way through Key Biscayne’s beloved and loved Crandon Park and volunteer to clean it up. Beach cleaning takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Earth Day 5K Virtual Run / Walk: From April 22 to May 8, volunteers can run or run towards their health goals at Earth Day 5K Virtual Run / Walk, a two-week virtual event that benefits the United Way of Miami-Dade. The first 100 registrants will receive a t-shirt and a medal.

Description: Baynanza is a celebration of Biscayne Bay and its importance as one of our most important ecological systems is South Florida. As with many other events, Baynanza was canceled last year due to COVID-19. There won’t be a big annual cleanup this year, but smaller events are happening throughout the year. If you or your group would like to schedule some small cleanups, we’d like to aid your activities by providing you with supplies, including Baynanza t-shirts and tote bags. Miami-Dade County Parks: Celebrate Earth Day in your local park! Just go to the Park Calendar and select the Month tab to view all of the events happening at your local Miami-Dade County Park in April.

Allapattah Earth Day clean up: Meet with some amazing organizations to clean up an area in Allapattah that needs our help. Join the team at Smart Bites To Go at 791 Northwest 20th Street starting Thursday, April 22nd at 5:00 pm to clean up the neighborhood. Register online or at the event. Organizers provide bags and gloves.

Earth Day Celebration at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens: Visit the Miami Beach Botanical Garden at the Convention Center Dr. 2000 to take part in the family-friendly fundraising event. The event includes a vinyasa class, a free giveaway for pollinator plants, an environmental market for local nonprofits and eco products, a 7:30 p.m. screening of the environmental film The Biggest Little Farm (bring a blanket), and Slowfish by Chef Allen Susser Fish Taco Stand.

Earth Day Drive-In: Celebrate Earth Day Thursday with a free drive-in show by The Lorax at Dezerland Park Miami at 14401 NE 19th Avenue, North Miami. The gates are scheduled to open at 4 p.m. and the film starts at 5:30 p.m. Food trucks are available. All COVID-19 security protocols are enforced

Earth Day Yoga & Tidying Up in Morningside Park: Participate in a complimentary morning yoga session that welcomes $ 10 donations at Morningside Park on 750 Northeast 55th Terrace from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. When the yoga session ends, it’s time to clean up the bay in honor of Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Guests are asked to bring their yoga mats, hats, sunscreen, and friends. Gloves and garbage bags are provided. Masks and social distancing required.

City of Garbage Tour at Adrienne Arsht Center: Celebrate Earth Day with the children with the virtual puppet show “City Of Trash” on Saturday, April 24th at 11 am. During the show, the audience is guided through a puppet making workshop to create their own junk superheroes from household items. These puppet heroes are then invited to save the day in our virtual performance. Only one ticket reservation is required per household. A zoom link for a conference call will be emailed to registered people within 24 hours of the performance.

Earth Day Miami Beach Yoga: Celebrate your Earth Day in Miami and spend your morning in the great outdoors! On April 24th there is a relaxing yoga session and beach cleanup at South Pointe Pier in the sand on the rocks. Check-in is at 8:30 AM, followed by a beach cleanup and yoga class. The cost is $ 24. Bring yoga mats, sunscreen, towels, workout clothes, gloves, and garbage bags.

Lowes Earth Day Free Tree Sapling Giveaway: Lowe’s is giving away 500,000 tree saplings for Earth Day. The free trees are part of the SpringFest event, which includes free Garden-to-Go project kits that can be picked up from the roadside every Thursday in April. Prior registration at Lowes.com is required. The seedlings will be handed out on April 22nd.
