Boy dies, woman hospitalized after shooting in NE Miami-Dade – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A 3-year-old boy has died and a woman was rushed to hospital after they were shot dead in a residential neighborhood in northeast Miami-Dade, according to police.

Miami-Dade Police and Fire Department responded to the shooting along Northeast 158th Street near North Miami Avenue just after 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Investigators said that some sort of altercation took place during a children’s birthday party and escalated until it led to the shooting.

Officers who responded found the boy and a 21-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics took the woman to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

7News cameras captured an active scene as crime scene investigators placed evidence markers next to cartridge cases and cordoned off the area with yellow tape.

The investigators also spoke to local residents.

Speaking to reporters, Miami-Dade police director Alfredo Ramirez III said the shooting had made him worried and concerned for the community.

“I can tell you that as a father and as a member of this community, I am utterly devastated. I’m disgusted, ”he said. “We’re talking about accountability. When will we hold ourselves accountable for what goes on on our streets every day? That’s ridiculous.”

Ramirez said those responsible for the shooting will be brought to justice.

“My condolences to them [boy’s] Family, and I can assure you that all resources of the Miami Dade Police Department are being used to arrest these people, ”he said.

The police have not provided any information about a possible shooter as they are still investigating.
