You’ve heard of a New York transplant, or worse, a tourist. Miami is NYC’s “Sixth District”. It’s condescending, it’s soul-tiring, and it minimizes the cultural significance of the Magic City itself. It almost makes you want to denounce all the great things we have here that started in New York like the Russian & Turkish Baths, Smith & Wollensky and Brittany Brave, the hardest-working comic in Miami’s stand-up Circuit. Since moving to Florida last fall, Brave has appeared to have been performing every night from South Beach to Boca Raton. Her sets are frenzied mixtures of self-irony and feminism, with a healthy touch of raunch that is intertwined throughout. Her crowdwork is natural, playful, and (mostly) kind-hearted, apart from the occasional stopover, which she manages with admirable tact. It may be painful to pay tribute to someone who made a name for themselves in the Big Rotten Apple ™ – but hey, she grew up in Kendall.
