ACC shakes up UNC, Wake Forest games due to Miami’s coronavirus issues
Coronavirus complications have once again changed soccer games for North Carolina and Wake Forest.
Positive testing and contact tracing quarantines affecting Miami’s team pushed the Hurricanes’ next three games to 12th place on Monday as the Atlantic Coast Conference remixed six games at the end of their season schedule, four of which were the tar heels and demon deacons.
Now North Carolina will face Western Carolina one week earlier than planned (December 5) in the teams’ non-conference matchup and Miami a week later than expected (December 12). The game takes place in Miami Gardens, Florida. Completion of the regular season for the tar heels.
North Carolina (6-2, 6-2 ACC) has an open date ahead of them this weekend before hosting Notre Dame # 2 on November 27, the day after Thanksgiving.
Due to the domino effect, Wake Forest also had opponents and appointments on the plan. The demon deacons game in Louisville has now been postponed to November 28, a week earlier than planned, and Miami’s visit to Winston-Salem has been changed to December 5, a week later than expected.
Wake Forest (4-3, 3-3) plays for Duke on Saturday. The Demon Deacons’ home game on December 12 against Notre Dame at the end of the regular season was unaffected by the reconfiguration on Monday.
Last weekend, Miami was without 13 players during Virginia Tech’s 25:24 survival, and after that narrow win in Blacksburg, Virginia, Hurricanes manager Manny Diaz said his team was about to postpone the game against the Hokies the coronavirus problems.
Miami (7-1, 6-1) was due to face Georgia Tech on Saturday. Instead, the Hurricanes won’t play this weekend or next.
The Hurricanes will now meet Georgia Tech on December 19th, the same day as the ACC championship game in Charlotte. The league said Monday that the Georgia Tech Miami game will be played when Miami is not in the ACC title game and the outcome doesn’t directly affect who plays in the conference championship game.
Here’s a look at the ACC’s newly scheduled games to accommodate Miami’s coronavirus situation:
Saturday November 28th
