SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – Police are investigating a shooting in Kendall that left three people dead and about five or six others injured.
The shooting occurred in the area of Southwest 109th Court on Saturday night.
Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez III said one of the victims shot was a Florida State Corrections officer.
The other two victims, also women, died after crashing into a wall on the Miami-Dade College Kendall campus. Whether they died after being shot or crashed into the wall is unknown, but a gun was found in the back of their car.
According to the police, there was a graduation ceremony that ended around 2 a.m. on Sunday. As the party ended, people were standing in the parking lot when a car pulled up and began to open fire on the crowd.
About five or six victims transported themselves to the hospital. They are expected to recover and be okay.
The Miami-Dade Police Director described the shooting as “targeted shooting.”
Police are looking for two cars that they believe may be linked to the crime scene. One of them is a dark vehicle that might be a Chevy Malibu and the other is a white Camry.
This latest shootout comes after Miami-Dade police launched Operation Summer Heat, a 12-week program in which police are working to reduce the gun violence that has plagued South Florida in recent weeks.
