Miami’s architecture isn’t just a big Art Deco echo. Although the tropical idyll is synonymous with pastel-colored hotels on South Beach and sprawling palm-fringed mansions on the city’s famous private islands, the cityscape today is as diverse as its residents.

Hardly a month goes by without the announcement that a new Herzog & de Meuron will be built for future generations or that a new development led by star architects promises to put the city firmly on the cultural map.

No building defines Miami, but rest assured: this booming, fast-moving city is fast becoming America’s capital of architecture.
